My Testimony in Remembrance of My Mother
Paul Jang [Missionary to USA, Computer Expert ]
Recently my wife and I had a short trip to Korea and experienced a great work of God in the midst of my mother's passing. I was the only Christian among my family members, but now a lot of them have begun to believe in Jesus.
During my previous visit to Korea, even though mother was suffering from a deficiency of iron and back pain her overall health condition seemed not bad. When I heard about her sudden brain surgery on Friday (1/18/08), I couldn't believe my ears. I was shedding tears for two days. My greatest pain was that I had been postponing my visit, epecially as she was fully ready to receive Jesus as her Savior and Lord after my recent conversation with her.
When I heard that her condition was serious on Sunday (1/20/08) afternoon, my heart was broken and hands were shaking from time to time and I didn't know what to do other than praying at the very moment. Then immediately I booked a flight and made an appointment with the expedite passport place in DC.
My brother told me that the doctor declared her brain death on Sunday night. When I finally arrived at the Hanyang University Hospital Intense Care Unit where my mother was, all I could do was to pray in tears beside my mother, because she couldn't talk or respond to me at all.
Overnight in the hospital, I wrote my life testimony. I slept less than 2 hours each day throughout the week. I could grab the moment when God opened a door to share the gospel with the family members, starting from my sister-in-law. I began to give her my testimony on Saturday (1/26/08) midnight, and then at 2:30 AM, did I to my father, my big brother, a cousin, and another sister-in-law at the hospital.
That night their hearts were all melted before the Lord! They also canceled their funeral plan based on the Buddhism practices. By the time I returned to Baltimore (1/24/08), they decided to bury mother in Christian way, helped by a pastor of my hometown.
From this trip, I learned so many things. Particularly, I came to have a sense of urgency in sharing the gospel with unsaved souls. And I tasted the greatness of God's mercy, his power and faithfulness.
Just as God promised in Acts 11:14, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved - you and your household", Jesus changed my household and has begun to write a whole new history of it.
I praise and love Him!
